Knitting Patterns
Knitting patterns are the first thing to look at when beginning a project. They determine the weight of the yarn, the amount needed, the size of needles to use, and what the end project will look like. When choosing a pattern consider the skill level first, a scarf is an easy pattern to begin with.
Reading knitting patterns can seem complicated but they will make more sense once the knitting has begun. Local yarn stores and online resources can help make learning how to read them a little easier. Learn the abbreviations and it will all make sense.
Knitting patterns are usually written out instead of being charted. Again, start with a simple pattern, one that has only one or two kinds of stitches. Make sure the yarn used is the same or similar weight as the one suggested in the pattern. Mark off the sections as they are completed so the progress can be monitored. With a little practice patterns will present no obstacle- only the complicated stitches!
