Knitting Needles

When a knitter first begins the hobby she finds she often is buying new needles because she needs an array of sizes. Knitting needles can come from a variety of materials. The materials can range from inexpensive aluminum or plastic to fancy rosewood, bamboo, even porcelain!

While shopping for knitting needles a consumer will notice that there are very basic needles but that there are also elaborate, beautiful needles. These pretty little things are tempting, but before she buys them she should get used to the hobby and figure out what sizes she uses most commonly. A knitter will have a few different needles in different sizes, but she will notice that there is one or two sizes she uses the most- this is the size she should buy her pretty needles in.

When buying the knitting needles it’s all about size. The yarn and pattern will name the needle sizes needed. The longer the row the longer the needle will be. Keep in mind that longer needles will cause the knitter to lose some speed.

The lighter the needle is the faster the knitting will go. Stiffness and smoothness are important to note as well. Another factor to keep in mind is the noise made; aluminum needles do make a louder clicking noise which may be unwanted for those who knit during movies. Wood is a quieter choice.
