Modern synthetic dyes are generally safe to use, but dye powder can cause allergic
reactions in the lungs, and they aren't suitable for ingesting.
Always wear a dust mask when handling dye powders to keep the
powder out of your lungs..
Keep dyes and dye materials away from unsupervised and younger children-- they
might eat them!
Use separate pots, bowls, and utensils for your dyeing. Do not eat out of these
tools after using with dye.
Do not eat or drink while dyeing.
If you dye in the kitchen, clean all stove and counter surfaces after you are
done.
Measure and mix dye powders outside, or at least out of the kitchen.
Wear gloves to prevent hand stains and dye absorption through the skin.
Soda ash can cause caustic burns. Use gloves when handling soda ash and soda
ash water.
Pregnant women should be especially cautious.
If you store dye in the fridge, close lid tightly, tape lid, and label clearly.
If you are using a substance (like wax) that can create fumes, use plentiful
ventilation and consider wearing a mask that filters fumes.
Don't work when you are tired or sleepy-- you may make mistakes.
