I love this dress! It was easy to make and fits very well. I made it with a silky moderate stretch fabric. The pattern called for a zipper in the back, but I didn't use one. It goes on just fine without a zip. The neck opening is quite wide, so I sewed the facing on with a 3/8" seam instead of the usual 5/8. The pattern includes a belt to dress it up. It wouldn't go over the shoulders of my dress form, so you can't see how nice it looks on the figure. Too bad! You can see a drawing of this pattern on Vogue's website.
This dress was also very easy to make. The one hard part was the neckline. You are suppose to use a bias strip of fabric to finish the edge, but I didn't like how it turned out, a little too tight and firm. I think next time I'll come up with something different. Other than than that I have no complaints about this pattern. It comes in a huge range of sizes. I've never seen so many in one pattern envelope.
This is a poly/ wool blend. I raised the neckline by 1 1/2" to increase
modesty. My dressform was bought when I was built a little more "spare"
than I am now, so it doesn't fill out the dress properly. The only complaint I have about this pattern is that the waist is a little too low, and the pattern didn't have an obvious place where I could bring it up a little. Overall, this is a comfortable dress, and I may make the shorter version with a lighterweight fabric sometime, after figuring out how to raise the waistline. The fabric I used for this dress was a little too heavy so the seams are bulkier than I would like, but no great loss-- the fabric was cheap and now I know exactly where adjustments need to be made.
