Beautiful Animal Dolls by Miriam Gourley-- My kids like this book. We have used the bunny patterns to make toys together, and the patterns went together just fine. Some of the patterns use acrylic paint to give the animal a more lively look. Not all of the animals shown are soft and fuzzy (because of the paint), but on the other hand, the painted shapes look more simple to sew than the fuzzy ones. The inspirational photos of artist dolls and toys in the back of the book are amazing!
Fine Machine Sewing by Carol Ahles-- Teaches machine sewers how to produce the look of hand finishing and embellishing on cotton and linen fabrics. Very specific advice on materials, tools, and techniques.
Simple Elegance: Furnishing with Fabric by Dawn Anderson-- patterns and projects for home decor, I especially like the squashy ball pillows.
Heirloom Ribbonwork by Helen Gibb-- Projects and techniques for ribbon flowers. Pretty to look at!
The Art of Manipulating Fabric by Colette Wolff-- amazing compendium of techniques for folding and stitching fabric. Great resource for textile artists.
Hand-stitched Boxes by Meg Evans-- lots of cute and useful little boxes. Some are fabric, some stitched plastic canvas. The instructions are quite clear.
Fabric Savvy by Sandra Betzina-- advice for many different fabrics concerning handling, thread, needle, interfacing, seam finishing and more. Good reference.
Soft Animals A to Z-- this is my favorite stuffed animal book. The patterns are cute and very 3 dimensional. We've made the cat pattern a few times and have plans for more.
Make Your Own Japanese clothes by John Marshall-- teaches how to calculate kimono patterns and other garments to fit all sizes.
Ultimate Serger Answer Guide-- I refer to this book when my serger is throwing tantrums.
